5 Ways to Discover New Books

Hello and good day, 

Today I have a post about discovering new books, and five ways to discover new books. There are many ways to discover new books, but today I am going to share with you the 5 main ways I find near books
1- Through goodreads,
 this is a website:
I use goodreads to see what my friends and people are reading and what they think of the book, and so on. Also I use goodreads to see what other books are similar to what I've already read and love. I also use this to track the books that I want to read and the books I have already read and you can track the page number on there and give a little update (which comes in useful when I'm writing a book review).
2-Blogs and Youtube;
I like seeing what my favourite booktubers and blogger are reading, and what they have enjoyed and seeing if I would like it too. I tend to read a couple of reviews before buying and reading a book. By looking through book blogs and seeing what people read and enjoyed.
3- Taking to people;
By simply talking to people about what they are reading, what books they've be liking and such. I do this a lot, and I've gotten into a lot of really good Authors and book series this way.
4- Libraries and Bookstore;
 I've spent hours and hours, in bookstores and libraries go through the different sections, looking at the covers and reading the back of the book, and just finding little gems.
5-Online book lists;
Websites/newspapers that have lists of the top 100 or 50 books. I look at the guardian best book lists, a lot as they help me to discover new books and authors.


My Book Buying and Reading Habits

Hello and good day,

Today I will be answering some questions about books and my habits surrounding books. Whether in the real world or the online world. So I've come up with some questions and I'm going to answer them.

So on to the questions;

WHAT

What genre do you tend to read?

I primarily read young adult books. I also read fantasy books and adventure books

What type of books do you buy (Hardcover, e-books etc)?

I  tend to buy paperback books as they are cheaper then hardcover and in the UK hardcover books are really hard to get hold of unless you order them online. Also I buy e-books, as I have the kindle reading app on my tablet, phone and laptop. 

WHEN

When do you read? How much time do you spend reading? 

I tend to read on my journeys to and from college and work (if I am working at the time), I also read for around half an hour upwards before bedtime. 

When do you buy books?

Ebook- I buy one e-book at least a week. Actual books- I tend to buy once a month or every two month but I don't buy loads just a couple. Around Christmas and my birthday I buy more and stock up. I visit the library regularly so I borrow books a lot. 

As I am a student I have very little money so borrowing books is the best option for me momentarily. 

WHERE

Where do you read?

I read pretty much everywhere, on public transport,on the sofa, in bed, and anywhere I can sit down.

Where do you buy books?

I buy my books from a range of places. Online I buy from Amazon and the book depository. I very rarely buy form WHSmith and Waterstone as they are a lot more expensive. I'm more likely to buy books from the Works (a cheap UK bookstore) or from ASDA, as my ASDA has a decent selection of books which tend to be a super good price (they have a 3 for £10 deal sometimes)  

WHY

Why do you read? 

I read because I love the escapism, 'meeting' new people (the different character), 'seeing' new places (all the new strange worlds) and I love using my imagination and creativity.

Why do you buy books?

I love the look of books on my shelf (or stack around my room), all the colours and beautiful covers. I love to be able to keep them forever and be able to go back and read them, look at them. And eventually show them to my children and let them read them.

WHO

Who do you read around? 

I read around anyone, but I also like to read on my own, so I can escape into the book without interruption.

Who buys you books? Who do you buy books for?

My parents by books for me and at Christmas most people by me books. I buy books for my friend who read for there birthdays and Christmas.

DO and ARE and others;

Do any of your close friends read? 

Yes, a few of my friends read, so I'm always recommending them new books that I love, mostly so I have someone to fangirl with!

Are you quick or slow reader? How many books do you read a week?

I'm quite a fast reader but I never have loads of spare reading time (as I'm a law student). I tend to read  2 books a week  (sometimes I read more, sometimes less).

UK vs US Book Covers #1

Hello, and good day

Today I have a book discussion for you! It is on UK and US book covers and how they are different and I am going to talk about the one I prefer. I may also talk about other countries covers too.

Sometimes they only look slightly different and sometimes it's a whole other cover. Sometimes I prefer the UK cover and some times another cover.

My Opinion:

Personally I prefer the US covers, they are more eye-catching, and depicts the story better and the colours look nicer together. Also I think they match better together.

The Harry Potter Series.

The Harry Potter Series has a range of different covers in different countries. So am I going to just talk about the first edition US and UK covers.

My Opinion:
I like both sets of covers, so my opinion on these are quite broad. I really like the UK spines of the books, and I think they look fun and bright on the book shelf. They also both depict the story well, which is most important in my opinion. I like the US covers depict the darker aspects of the book, where the UK covers depict the fun and adventurous side of the books. I really like the contrast of the two.

My Opinion:
Personally I like the colours of them both. I think the US one looks a bit more mysterious which I like.They are both also similar with the eye and the sky line and the font. I like them both but I like the US one a bit more.

Harry Potter Facts

Hello and good day, 

Today I am going to be sharing with you some harry potter facts. Some of the facts are from the books and some are about what the films missed.

Quick Harry Potter Facts;

1- Fred and George Weasley were born on April Fools' day.

2- Ginny Weasley's first name is Ginevra, and she is the first female Weasley born for "several generations," says JKR.

3- Dragons can't be domesticated, no matter what Hagrid thinks.

4- The Hogwarts teachers do not stay at Hogwarts during the Christmas holidays. However, Filch, Hagrid, and Dumbledore do.

What The Film Got Wrong;

 1- James Potter was a Chaser on the Gryffindor Quidditch team (although the movie claimed he was a Seeker).

2- In the end of Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone Harry, Ron and Hermione faced a series of challenges in order to save the stone but in the film Hermione's film challenge got cut.

3-In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry receives “The Marauder’s Map,” which magically reveals the location of any individual at Hogwarts in real-time. But who the heck were “The Marauders?” It’s a good question, and one that the movies never answer. In the books we learn that The Marauders were a group of troublemakers consisting of Harry’s father and Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew and Remus Lupin, who created the map so they could sneak around Hogwarts and accompany Lupin on nights when he turned into a werewolf. This, along with most other elements of James Potter’s backstory, is completely omitted from the film franchise.

Top 10: Manga

Hello and Good Afternoon,

Today I will be sharing with you all, my ten favourite manga's to date. I'm sure as I continue to read manga's this will change but for now here are my current favourites,

1- Death Note
Written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata.

Genre: Detective fiction, Psychological thriller, Supernatural
Synopsis: It centers on Light Yagami, a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook, the titular "Death Note". This notebook grants its user the ability to kill anyone whose name and face they know. The series centers around Light's subsequent attempts to create and rule a world "cleansed of evil" as "God" using the notebook, and the efforts of a detective known as L to stop him.

2-Naruto 
Written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy
Synopsis: It tells the story of Naruto Uzumaki, an adolescent ninja who constantly searches for recognition and dreams to become the Hokage, the ninja in his village who is acknowledged as the leader and the strongest of all

3- Bleach
 Written and illustrated by Tite Kubo

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

Synopsis: Bleach follows the adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki after he obtains the powers of a Soul Reaper  —a death personification similar to the Grim Reaper—from another Soul Reaper, Rukia Kuchiki. His newfound powers force him to take on the duties of defending humans from evil spirits and guiding departed souls to the afterlife.

4- Black Butler (Kuroshitshui)
Written and illustrated by Yana Toboso

Genre: Historical, Black comedy, Dark fantasy
Synopsis: The series follows Ciel Phantomhive, the thirteen-year-old head of the Phantomhive noble family and the business-savvy owner of the Funtom company, a toy manufacturer. Ciel has formed a contract with Sebastian Michaelis, a demon who has taken on the guise of Ciel's butler. In return, when Sebastian has helped Ciel finish all of his tasks, including avenging his parents' deaths, Sebastian will be allowed to consume Ciel's soul.

5- High School of the Dead

Synopsis: The story follows a group of high school students caught in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

6- Vampire Knight 
Written by Matsuri Hino

Genre: School story, Romance, Supernatural, Action, Tragedy, Shounen-ai
Synopsis: Yuki's earliest memory is of a stormy night in winter, where she was attacked by a vampire... And then rescued by another, Kaname. Now 10 years later, Yuki Cross, the adopted daughter of the headmaster of Cross Academy, Kaien Cross, has grown up and become a guardian of the vampire race, protecting her childhood crush, Kaname, from discovery as he leads a group of vampires at the elite boarding school. 7- Absolute Boyfriend

When she returns a lost cell phone to an oddly dressed salesman, she mentions wanting a boyfriend. To thank her, he directs her to his company's website, Kronos Heaven. When she visits the site, Riiko finds it's a site to create your perfect lover. Thinking it's a game, she customizes and accidentally orders one. The next day, her new lover arrives. Following the instruction manual, she kisses him to wake him up which configures him to be in love with only her. She names him "Night." Three days later, she is shocked to learn that she only had him for a free trial for 72 hours. The salesman, Gaku Namikiri, tells her that she must now pay ¥100,000,000 for Night, however, they will waive the fee if she helps them to collect data about how women think and feel to help perfect future models.

 Written and illustrated by Naoko Takeuchi.

Genre: Magical girl
Synopsis: The series begins with a 14-year-old middle school student named Usagi Tsukino befriending Luna, a talking cat who reveals Usagi's identity as Sailor Moon, a magical "pretty soldier in a sailor suit" destined to save Earth from the forces of evil. Luna accompanies Usagi to assemble a team of fellow Sailor Soldiers, find their princess and the "Legendary Silver Crystal".

10-The Wallflower
Written by Tomoko Hayakawa.

Genre: Drama, Romantic comedy

Synopsis: The Wallflower is about a girl named Sunako who was called ugly by the first and only person to whom she confessed her love. This incident sparks a life change, and as a result Sunako shuns all forms of beauty, both in herself as well as in life. Concerned by her change for the worst, Sunako's aunt, the owner of a huge mansion where four very handsome high school students live (for free), demands the boys to transform her niece into the "perfect lady," and in return they will be able to continue living there for free. They are given a deadline and if they are unable to uphold their deal then they would have to either pay a lump sum of cash or vacate the premises.
